WAY TO START! Gaby Press's first publication won three significant awards in 2009. "Rankin Inlet: A Novel" was selected
as a Highlighted Title by Independent Publisher, was chosen as a Finalist in USA Book News 2009 Best Book Awards, and was
a medal winner at the 2009 "IPPY" Awards recognizing the best independently-published books of the year.
Better yet, Farley Mowat himself recently read "Rankin Inlet" and declared it to be the best novel ever written about
the North. On top of that, the 45-member University of Alberta Alumni Association book club said that "Rankin Inlet" is the
only book in the history of their club that everyone
loved!

Gaby Press was established in the fall of 2008 in response to evolving changes in the publishing industry that have made
it extremely difficult for new authors (especially first time fiction writers) to become published. Our goal is to facilitate
the publication of works by exceptional authors whose work might easily be overlooked by conventional publishing houses--and
that would be a shame. Our focus is on works that inform as well as entertain, particularly stories that promote cross-cultural
understanding and celebrate nature's diversity.
The press is filled daily with stories about mergers, acquisitions,
layoffs, and freezes in the world of publishing. It is our opinion that the traditional publishing model is broken. Gaby
Press has joined the ranks of independent publishers in North America to try in our small way to do something to address this
problem, by bringing some important works to print using new strategies such as combining small print runs with supplemental
on-demand printing and internet marketing to achieve cost efficiencies. We are part of a new trend in publishing, and we expect
to produce more alternative products like audio books and e-books in the future.
